Self-trust is the first secret of success.

                                                           --Emerson.

                                        Let us turn to Vedas to know what they teach about on self-confidence. The Vedic hero declares,

                         Ahamindro Na paraajigma   iddanam Na mrithyavevataste kadaachana|

                                                                                                             Rigveda 10.48.5

 I am Indra! I am powerful! I never loose my greatness! Never shall I get defeated! Nobody could divest me with my money and strength. I never feel that I could be defeated even while being in the jaws of death. What a soulful feeling?

                    The Vedic hero understands his strength well. While confidant of the strength of his hands he asserts,

                 Ayam me hasto baghavanayam me bhagavatharah|

                                                                            Atharvaveda4.13.6-                                                                     This hand is powerful. The other hand is still terrific and dexterous.

                    When a man is aware of his strength and filled with confidence, then there is nothing that could not be accomplished.

                 Relevant here is the talk of Hanuman who is brisling with self confidence. In an episode culled out from a play called Hanumannatak, Hanuman declares,

                            paatalatah kimu sudharasamaanayaami|

                            Nishpidya chandraamrutham kimuthaaharaami|

                            Uddanda chanda kiranam nanu varayaami|

                             keenaasha paashamanisham kimuchoornayami||

                                                                               Hanumannata 3.16

                         Lord! Shall I bring the nectar from the deep beneath? Or shall I bring nectar by crushing the moon? Or shall I stop the blazing Sun? Or Shall I smash yama, the lord of deaths?

                      Here, it should be noted that Hanuman is not monkey but an expert in both warfare and grammar

                             Now to revert to the subject, Vedas say,

                                       Na vaa u maam vrijane vaarayante na
                                       Parvataaso yadaham manasye|

                                       Mama Svanaathrudhukarno bhayaatha

                                       vivedanau dhyunkiranah samejaath||

                                                                             Rigveda   10.27.5

Once resolved, then no power on earth could ever deviate me from the chosen path. While this being the case, what to care of these ordinary impediments? Even, if a mountain were to stand in my way it cannot prevent from my chosen goal. Ordinary men would get terrified at my roaring. Even the multilayer Sun also shivers at my strength.

                   Hence, the wish of Vedic hero is,

                           Angiraso bhavamadrim rujema|

                                                             Rigveda 4.2.5

Let us be equal to the brilliance of Agni and be strong enough to  pulverize the mountain!

                                                 Anamajyoja Aachake|    Rigveda 3.62.5

                             I could never be bent. I could never be suppressed. I pray for radiance, brilliance, power, and self confidence. The quantum of Power, I therefore require is

                                Mahyam namanthaam pradishashchthasrah

                                                                      Atharvaveda 5.3.1

                                        - Let all the four directions prostrate before me!

                 The Vedic hero is brimming with self-confidence. He never gets frightened even in the midst of grave danger nor is he scared about what is in store for him in future. He is not concerned whether he would manage to get food the next day. A Vedic hero is a staunch believer in God and personification of self-confidence.
