How beautifully the greatness of Satsang has been brought out in Vedas could be seen as under.
Doore poornena vasathi doora unena heeyathe|
Mahadaksyam bhuvanasya madhye tasmai balim rastrabritho bharanthi||
Atharva 10.8.15
Man makes progress when being in the company of wise and the learned. Hence, he keeps away from the unlearned. He gets condemned while being in the company of lowly and stupid people. The person who is venerated everywhere always makes Stuthi, Prathana, and Upasana of that Almighty.
Sanskrit literature is full of the greatness of Satsangh. For ex, Kalidas makes following observation in extolling Satsangh.
Noonam neechajanai sango haanaye surasevitha|
Daasayogepi saa kaali drishyathe hrswatangatha||
By associating with wretched people even divine elements [Devatas] descend to lowest depths. When Kali started associating with “Dasa” she also became small
{Kali+Dasa=Kalidasa}
Man must get growing. He should progress. Hence Vedas command the humanity to do Satsang. The prayer of Vedic devotee is as below.
Yajaama devanyadi shakyvaama| Rigveda 1.27.13
We must associate with the learned as much as we could. We must sit by the side of the learned.
Same words have been explained bit clearly.
A devanamapi panthamaganma yachakshavaama tadanu pravodum|
Atharva 19.59.3
We must follow the path of devas, i.e Scholars and wise. In case we cannot follow them completely, we must follow as much as we could.
Devaanaam sakhyamupasedima vayam| Yajurveda 24.15
Let us get the friedship of the learned and wise. In other words, let us sit in the company of learned and wise men.
Yagno devaanaam pratyethi sumnam| Yajurveda 8.4
The association with the wise and learned causes happiness.
The soil with the association of fragrant flowers starts emanating fragrance. Similarly when we associate with the Scholars and wise our qualities also get refined and expanded.
Vedas while teaching us the benefits of Satsangh also bans us to be associated with bad people.
Maakim brahmadvisho vanah| Rigveda 8.45.23
Never make frienship with those who hate Iswar, Vedas and the learned.
