                          Vedas are highly pragmatic in its teachings. It not only speaks of attaining of Spiritual welfare but talks of improving temporal wealth also. Vedas have not been indifferent either to the wealth or to its acquisition. Vedas have not prohibited to the gaining of wealth.  The devotee says the following prayer of Veda.

                  vayam syama  pathayo rayeenaam|

                                                                     Atharvaveda 7.80.4

    Oh! Lord of the universe!  Let us become the master of wealth and money.

            The couples while praying say the following.

                                  Tvam  no nabhasaswatha  urjam griheshu dharaya|

                                  Aa   pushtametvaa vasu||

                                                                         Atharvaveda  6.79.2

           Oh! The lord of all! You fill us in our homes the strength and vitality giving food and sustaining wealth.

                              Dhatha  dadaatu no  rayeemeeshano jagatspatih|

                              Sa  nah   poornena yachatu||

                                                                           Atharvaveda  7.17.1

          Let the Eshwar who is the creator and sustainer of the world grant us the spiritual, and all sorts of physical, earthly wealth.  Let Him grant us the wealth to the proportion of our strength and efforts

                  The devotee prays the God for wealth by haggling and bargaining.

                                 Bhurida  Bhuri dehi  no maa dabram bhoorya bhara|

                                 Bhoori  ghedeendra ditsasi||

                                                                             Atharvaveda 4.32.20

                       Hey   Parameshwar!  You grant too much. Hence, you grant us too. Don’t give us a bit.  You grant us heavy wealth. Hey Indra! The wealthiest! You are too fond of giving us too much.

              The devotee says in another Mantra.

                  Pauro ashwasya  purukrid gavamasyuthso deva hiranmayah|

                  Nakihri daanam parimardishath   tve yadhyadhyaami  tadaa bara||

                                                                               Atharvaveda 20.118.2

                     Hey the open handed munificent God!  You increase the wealth with horses and wheat. Nobody could destroy the wealth given by you. Therefore the Lord! You grant us those things that we pray.

                                        Yatsoma chitramukthyam  divyam paarthivam vasu|

                                        Tannah punana  aa bhara||

                                                                                                       Rigveda 9.19

                 Hey the prime source of all wealth! You grant us those that are praiseworthy and the noble.   You grant that wealth in this world after the same is purified.

                                    Rayee rasi  rayeem me dehi|

                                                                                                     Atharvaveda19.31.12

             Hey the rich and precious!  You are the wealth and grant us that wealth to us.

         The devotee of Veda needs money. But money of what kind?  Does he require the money that is obtained out of stealing?  No, never.  He requires money obtaining thru hard labour and right means.

                                 Agninaa rayeemashnavath poshameva dive dive|

                                 Yashasm Veeravathamam||

                                                                                               Rigveda 1.1.3

             Man must obtain the life sustaining, praise worthy wealthy thru the dint of    great and grand hard efforts only.

                      Man should not earn money thru wrong and deceitful means. Because,

                Money obtained thru unfair methods glow like the glow-fly. It glows for a while and disappears in darkness.  Darkness sets in again.

                    Understating this eternal truth, the Vedic devotee announces,

                                Pra  patetah  paapi lakshmi nashyetha pramutah patha|

                                Ayaswayenankena dwipathe tvaa sajamasi

                                                                                                    Atharvaveda7.115

                Oh the sinful Lakshmi [i.e. the wealth gained through the sinful methods] Go away from this house. Run away from here. Run away from that house also. We drive you away towards the enemy with the steel thorns.                                       yaa  maa lakshmih pathayaalu rajustabhiskanda vandaneva vriksham|           savithasthamitho dha hiranyahastho vasu no raraanah||

                                                                                                   Atharva 7.115.2

            That Lakshshmi which gets into immoralities and devoid of love is encircling me like the parasite creeper. Hey the Savitha!  You separate us from this Nagini. Hey the Lord of wealth like Gold etc! You grant us with the good and justifiable wealth.

                                 Apapaapam  parikshvam  punyam Bhakshimahi kshavam|

                                                                                                     Atharva 19.8.5

              May we keep away from the food that is contaminated and enjoy that food which is holy.

 Bhurbhuavah svah suprajaah prajaabhih syama suveeraa veerai suposhah poshaih|

                                                                                                       Yajurveda 8.53

          Let our offsprings become good subjects on Earth, Sky and beyond. Let them become best of the best heroes and become wealthy, rich and prosperous.
